APEM FOUNDATION

We are a non-profit organization ran entirely by volunteers committed to the well-being of the Mexican community in New York. We have a strong desire to educate, inspire, and cause a noticeable improvement in the life, education, work and personal finances of our fellow Mexicans.

Our mission is to build a motivational bridge and develop the commitment from the Mexican Professional and Entrepreneurial community towards accelerating the development of the least-favored members of the Mexican community by way of existing organizations.

WHAT WE DO

APEM Foundation was created in 2014; with passionate volunteers that want to help Mexicans in the NY area bridge and overcome systemic challenges because of immigration status or cultural and educational background.  We channeled our first efforts through the Jaime Lucero Mexican Studies Institute of Lehman College, which is part of CUNY (City University of New York), the largest public university in the city. We joined an existing scholarship program, administered by the institute, as it was the only vehicle we found that allows undocumented students to have access to resources for a university career.

Their immigration status did not give them access to a large number of public and private programs that grant scholarships and financial aid. In 2013, we awarded scholarships to 45 students and we assigned a mentor to each one - APEM volunteers who are committed to the cause. With your generous support, this year we hope to raise enough funds to help more students.

In almost all families of young people who applied for a scholarship, some member of the family suffers from a chronic, serious, or even terminal illness. Others have suffered the deportation or death of their parents, and have lived in situations of sexual abuse, domestic violence, or other unfortunate life scenarios. But the most poignant of their stories is their resilience to overcome adversity and the fact that they are young people full of hope and hope, despite the hard experiences they have lived. They are determined to get ahead and demonstrate what they can achieve, even though they have spent their entire lives listening to the reasons why they are going to fail.

We are the only alternative that many of these young people have to finance their university studies. We also know that having more graduates of the university in our community will accelerate their development: the most effective measure to increase the income of families is university education, since the average salary of a Mexican graduate of high school is of $ 25,000 a year, and this is multiplied by three ($ 75,000) if you graduate from college (college/university). With your help, we can make a big difference in the lives of these young people who deserve support.

We ask for your financial support in any amount that you can donate, EVERY donation is a great help!
